Friday Round Up II

Last week, I posted about some interesting discoveries I had made online. Read that post here
This week, I have found more fascinating blogs & portfolios. Here they are:
Artists & Illustrators:
I always like to see Aniela Murphy’s illustrations pop up on Amelia’s Magazine and she has had a great blog for some time now, but it [...]

Work in Progress

I thought it might be interesting to share some works in progress with you. The first image is an oil painting. It’s not very far along just yet; I had planned to draw a different scene, but then I started making a grid across the bottom half and decided to alter it.
The painting on the [...]

Creative Boom Banner

I enjoyed drawing this banner for Creative Boom very much. I decided to draw a British street and to age the drawing with a hint of sepia to contrast with the blue Creative Boom logo.
It’s always fun to do something for Creative Boom; it’s a lively, interesting site with lots going on for creatives [...]

Friday Round Up

Every week I discover interesting art and writing online. Here is a quick look at some of the blogs and sites I have visited this week:
Artists & Illustrators:
I’ve been a great fan of Simon Wild’s illustration since stumbling across it on twitter earlier this year and his first children’s book is available on Amazon right [...]

Dodo for Blanket Magazine

This illustration for Blanket magazine’s current issue was inspired by my ongoing obsession with vintage film and theatre posters.
The theme for submissions was Gone But not Forgotten and I drew a dodo because it is probably the most well remembered of all the extinct species and reflects the theme quite well.
Downloading Blanket magazine costs just [...]

Eloise Moody

This illustration was created for an article on Amelia’s Magazine about Bobbin Bicycles. I drew Eloise Moody, who creates rather charming Bowler hats and deerstalkers to be worn over bike helmets.
I loved this idea – back in the days when I owned a bike, having to wear a helmet really annoyed me and this is [...]

Sunsets, sunrises and narratives.

Last year, during August, I painted this picture of Tala hillside. It was painted between 5am and 6am in the morning because during the months of August in Cyprus, this is pretty much the only time it is possible to sit outside comfortably. I used to get up before the sun rose over the [...]

Le Smoking

Another illustration for Amelia’s Magazine; this time for their article on Yves Saint Laurent. I drew the iconic le smoking tuxedo suit, photographed by Hemnut Newton and one of my favourite bits of fashion photography.
For a while now, I’ve been drawing music and fashion illustrations in quite a graphic style, like this example here:
The illustrations [...]

Fionn Regan

Another piece for the delightful Amelia’s Magazine; this time, to accompany their review of the intriguing sounding Secret Garden Party Festival. I drew Fionn Regan and suffered an epic moment of angst ridden indecision over whether to do my usual ‘lot’s of background and some trees’ thing or whether to go a bit more minimalist. [...]

Sci-fi Landscape

A sci-fi landscape.I quite liked the idea of painting a futuristic landscape in watercolour and pencil crayon; these being fairly traditional media.
